Ai Weiwei is a Chinese contemporary artist and activist, investigating government corruption and cover-ups through the conversation of installations and political activist activity. After painting and drawing on the streets of New York, and through exposure of the artworks of Duchamp, Warhol and Johns, Weiwei began creating conceptual art by altering ready made objects. Weiwei draws on his own experience to comment on creative freedom, censorship and human rights, as well as examining contemporary Chinese art and society.
