Olafur Eliasson

Your House is a book that I have enjoyed looking at due to the uniqueness, looking at a specific house within a certain way. The book was a commission by the Library Council of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

The house is Eliasson’s house in Copenhagen, on an exact scale of 85:1. It was laser-cut negative impression, in order to create holes of where the rooms, corridors and windows are, all in 908 pages (454 hand-bound leaves) which were individually cut and corresponds to 2.2 cm of the actual house. The book was designed and realised by Michael Heimann and Claudia Baulesch and was based on the computer-generated model of the house.

“As readers leaf through the pages, they have the illusion of slowly making their way through the rooms of the house from front to back, thus constructing a mental and physical narrative. The result is an intensified sense of space, dimensions, materiality, and time.” Source: olafureliasson
