Mary Heilmann

Contemporary

Mary Heilmann thought that painting was missing the point and it had become very impersonal. In some ways she is a lazy artist as she thinks about the painting a lot, but then paints them very quickly.

Within her paintings, she uses emotive colours which is often opposite to what other painters and artists use. These colours have also come from modern sources such as the colour scheme of The Simpsons.

Mary also adds in handmade chairs into her exhibitions that fit with the colour scheme. This allows people to sit down and talk about her work, rather than just to pass through.
